Housekeeping:
Some of you might have noticed that I never include jobs from weapons contractors. There are science communication gigs with Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin, Ball Aerospace, but I never include them, and it’s because: fuck those guys. I got into this biz because I believe in the power of storytelling and the cumulative good of science for all, not just for who our government deems useful.
That’s why this is the last newsletter that will include government gigs. Across the federal complex, middle-managers are throwing up their hands and telling their direct reports to scrub the website of that all-girl’s science camp, or remove the word “LGBT” from their grant mandate. I know this, because this is happening to me, and to my friends, and to strangers who share screenshots on social media.
So fuck these guys. I’m not going to help them find some insanely talented person who will be trapped into using their talent to rewrite history.
But I also understand you need to make a buck and have health insurance. So I’m linking some of the sources I use to search for scicomm jobs below:
Lab-specific websites like NREL and SLAC
Contractor websites like Rothe (NASA contractor) and KBR (NASA and adjacent contractor)
